The other day I posted an article about Carlos Yulo, a Filipino Gymnast who won two Olympic Gold medals and earned incentives closed to a million dollars. This is my second pasting that I received from my FaceBook Page and am sharing it with you.
This is the Yulo family’s journey that is a testament to the idea that true success is not just measured in medals, but in the ability to overcome personal challenges and find healing.

In a year marked by historic achievements for Filipino gymnastics, Carlos Yulo’s Olympic success has become a source of national pride and celebration. But behind the triumphs, a more personal and poignant story has unfolded—one that resonates deeply with the complexities of family relationships, especially when intertwined with fame and financial success.
On the world stage, Carlos Yulo stands as a symbol of Filipino excellence, a beacon of hope, and a testament to the power of dedication and hard work. At just 24, he has not only secured his place in history as the most accomplished Filipino gymnast but has also brought home two gold medals from the Paris Olympics. These victories, however, have not shielded him from the struggles that come with personal relationships, particularly with his mother, Angelica Poquiz Yulo.
In a candid video message shared on TikTok, Carlos reached out to his mother, urging her to move past their differences. The video, which has since gone viral, showed the young athlete flanked by his girlfriend, content creator Chloe San Jose, as he spoke openly about forgiveness and the need for healing.
"My message to you now is to heal, move on, and you know, I’ve forgiven you a long time ago already," Carlos said, his voice steady but filled with emotion. "I pray that you are safe and in good condition over there. Let’s stop this and celebrate the sacrifices, achievements, and hard work of every Filipino athlete here in the Olympics."
These words, delivered with the maturity and grace of someone who has faced adversity both on and off the mat, highlight the depth of Carlos’s character. Yet, the message was also a response to a very public rift between mother and son, one that had been simmering beneath the surface of his Olympic journey.
Carlos defended his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, against criticisms from his mother, who had questioned her intentions and even her cultural upbringing. "She [Angelica] judges Chloe by the way she acts and dresses," Carlos explained. "First of all, Chloe was in Australia and grew up in that culture. And it’s very different from how people dress or talk in the Philippines." He went further, dismissing suspicions that San Jose was financially exploiting him, asserting that she had her own income and had even supported him at times.
Perhaps the most shocking revelation came when Carlos accused his mother of mismanaging his finances. He disclosed how his mother had accessed his bank accounts and drained his earnings, including incentives from competitions. "When I finally got control of that bank account, I found out she had been draining it. I have the bank statements showing the withdrawals she made," he said, sharing a painful truth that had long been kept private.
In response, Angelica Yulo issued a public apology during a press conference, acknowledging her mistakes and expressing her desire for reconciliation. "Son, I am sorry," she said. "I understand some may think I’m only speaking now because of your success. I ask for your forgiveness as a concerned mother. You are mature enough to make your own decisions. Our door is always open, regardless of your financial status."
Her words, while poignant, reflect the universal struggles of parents and children as they navigate the complexities of relationships, especially when success and money come into play. "I am not a perfect mother and God knows you are not a perfect son, and there's no perfect family. A mother only wants the best for her children," Angelica stated, echoing sentiments that many can relate to.
The story of Carlos and Angelica Yulo is one that could easily be the plot of a Netflix drama—a tale of triumph, betrayal, forgiveness, and ultimately, healing. It is a reminder that behind every athlete’s success is a human being with a family, with all the joys and sorrows that come with it.
As we celebrate Carlos Yulo’s incredible achievements on the global stage, let us also acknowledge the personal battles he has fought and won. The reconciliation between mother and son is a victory in its own right, one that speaks to the power of forgiveness and the importance of family.
In the end, the Yulo family’s journey is a testament to the idea that true success is not just measured in medals, but in the ability to overcome personal challenges and find healing. Mabuhay ang pamilyang Yulo. May their story inspire us all to cherish and heal our own relationships, and to celebrate not just the victories that the world sees, but also the quieter, more personal triumphs that often go unnoticed.(Tambuli Ng Bayan- Ronnie Estrada) #yuloreconcilliation #CarlosYulo #angelicayulo𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬: 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐘𝐮𝐥𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
