Once dismissed as a polluted estuary suffering from decades of neglect, the Iloilo River has become one of the Philippines' most celebrated examples of urban ecological restoration. Its transformation has earned recognition not just at home, but on the world stage.
The river rehabilitation program received the ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ at the 2010 ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ช๐ท๐๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ๐ด, followed by the ๐๐ช๐ญ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ at the 2011 ๐๐ช๐ท๐๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ๐ด for advancing integrated and sustainable river management.

More recently, the Iloilo River Esplanade received the 2024 ๐๐ด๐ช๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ๐ด๐ค๐ข๐ฑ๐ฆ ๐๐ธ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ for exemplary urban landscape design and sustainability.
Its influence reached beyond Iloilo. In 2015, experts, policymakers, and environmental leaders from across the Asia-Pacific gathered in the city to adopt the ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
๐น๐๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐... a landmark call for science-based, community-driven, and climate-resilient river governance that continues to inspire watershed restoration efforts across the region.
