From My Readings This Week- I am super proud to have Filipino Ancestry
“How Filipino Are They?” — The Wrong Question.
It happens in football, and even in everyday life but maybe even more when football players represent the national team but don't look or sound like what some expect.
But here’s the truth:

And that’s not a weakness it’s a beautiful strength that we should be celebrating.

Just 10 generations ago, each of us had 1,024 ancestors.
If even one of them hadn’t existed — a Spanish soldier, a Chinese trader, a Japanese settler, an Indian merchant — we wouldn’t exist today.
Even if some of their DNA has faded, their role in our life was irreplaceable.

Look at the Philippines national football teams.
Players with Ilocano blood. Moro blood. Spanish last names. African-Filipino heritage. Fil-Ams and Fil-Europeans. They may come from different places but they wear the same flag.
Because the real question isn’t: “How Filipino are they?”
It’s:
“Are they proud to fight for the Philippines?”
And the answer is clear: yes otherwise they would not be there fighting for our country.

Today, people still come to the Philippines — Americans, Africans, Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese.
Some fall in love with the country. Some marry here. Some raise kids who’ll grow up proudly Filipino.
Why? Because anyone who knows the Philippines knows this truth:
This country is not perfect. There is poverty, there are struggles…
But there is also something rare: kind people. Welcoming people. Smart, open-minded, generous people.
That’s why so many who visit want to stay.
That’s why the world keeps falling in love with the Philippines.

Be proud of your roots.
Question history if you must.
But never forget:
You are not just part of history you are the result of it.
And that… is what makes the Filipino identity so special.
Meanwhile, here's my photo of the Day
Cory and Ronan-Our two Student Volunteers in Activity- Interns here at THD. This photo reminded me of my teenager years ( about 75 years ago) in the Philippines of being, young, active and handsome and filled with hope for the Future.
During the preliminary interview, host Bob Barker reportedly asked her:
“Is it true that you Filipinos eat with your hands?”
With grace and a razor-sharp wit, Gloria calmly answered:
“Why? Do you use your feet?”
BOOM. The room went silent. The world paid attention.
That single line—equal parts confidence, pride, and humor—has since become legendary. It was a moment that symbolized Filipino dignity, cultural pride, and unshakable poise in the face of subtle mockery. Right after that, Gloria went on to win the crown—and the hearts of millions.
She didn’t just represent beauty. She stood for an entire nation.

This quote has been retold and shared countless times, but it was not aired during the live Q&A. Many believe it happened during the private preliminary interview, but to this day, there is no official recording to confirm it.
Still, myth or truth, it continues to live on—a symbol of how Filipinos respond: calm, clever, and proud.
