One of the many topics we discussed here at THD during meal times is our contentment and happiness here in this facility. I have talked to number of old timers ( residents who have been here more than 4 years) as well as Newbies like me and 100% are very content with their stay here at THD.
The reasons why we are happy is because we were prepared for our old age both financially and socially. A recent article by nbc.com detailed the 3 current ways of rethinking about old age and retirement as follows:
The David B Katague Family, Mountain View, California, 2013
Here are the key points of the above article.
- The classic notion of retirement planning is a measure of savings and time.
- “Longevity” planning is a more complete framework, said Joseph Coughlin, director of the MIT AgeLab.
- Americans overlook many important aspects of old age. They include transportation, social life and small tasks that may be difficult or impossible. Many of them carry a financial cost.
- The lessons learned in the above article is that one must plan his or her retirement ahead of time both financially and socially. Longevity Planning is a Must!
- My Quote of the Day: To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. Anatole France, 1844-1924, French Writer

Thanks, David, as always
Good news to hear that you're happy in your new home.... As it was said: Age, Retirement, &.Longevity
is an issue of mind over matter, If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
You’ve got one life to live and make the most of it while you’re alive. You’re having a blast because you have more social interactions after living alone for very long. Writing gives you fulfillment and the ability to share your stories. The best is to have your children and grandchildren celebrating life with them.
Art is Life, love erik
Erik, I agree 100% that ART IS LIFE. Take Care, David
Quotations about Art is Life:
“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” – Pablo Picasso. “Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one.” – Stella Adler. “I want to touch people with my art. I want them to say, 'he feels deeply, he feels tenderly.” – Vincent Van Gogh.
Also, Art is Life and Life is Art !!!
Aging is cruel for the body and appearance. But aging also means we are wiser and adaptable in old age. May you continue your productivity in your advanced age.
