My Questions To Ask of the Future Permanent GM of THD

THD is currently searching for A Permanent General Manager.
The position has been vacant several months ago after Nisha Patel sudden departure.

   For Details visit:
Once this Person is hired,  I plan on the following Interview Questions for My Daily Blogs.

Here are questions I plan on asking for my blogs:

Introduction and Leadership Philosophy

  1. Could you tell us about your professional background and what attracted you to The Heritage Downtown?
  2. What is your leadership philosophy when managing a senior living community?
  3. What do you see as the most important responsibilities of a General Manager in a community like THD?
  4. During your first 90 days, what will be your top priorities?

Continuity and Stability

  1. Many residents value continuity and consistency. How do you plan to provide stability during this period of transition?
  2. What steps can be taken to reduce turnover among staff, particularly in Activities and Resident Services?
  3. How important do you believe employee retention is to the overall quality of life of residents?
  4. Have you faced similar turnover challenges in previous positions, and how did you address them?

Resident Services and Activities

  1. Activities and Resident Services are often the "heart" of an active senior community. What is your vision for these departments?
  2. How will you ensure that residents' voices are heard when evaluating programs and services?
  3. Are there plans to expand or improve activities, excursions, educational programs, or wellness offerings?
  4. How will you measure success in resident satisfaction?

Employee Relations

  1. What qualities do you look for in department leaders and supervisors?
  2. How do you create a work environment where employees feel valued and supported?
  3. What role does communication play in maintaining healthy relationships among management and staff?
  4. How will you address concerns if there are conflicts among members of the leadership team?

Transparency and Communication

  1. Residents often hear rumors but do not always receive official information. How do you plan to improve communication and transparency?
  2. How often do you plan to meet with residents to hear their concerns and suggestions?
  3. Would you consider regular town hall meetings where residents can ask questions directly?
  4. How can residents best provide feedback to management?

Corporate and Local Decision-Making

  1. THD is part of a larger organization with corporate leadership in Las Vegas. How do you balance corporate policies with the unique needs of local residents?
  2. How much autonomy does the local General Manager have in making decisions?
  3. What can residents expect regarding communication between local management and corporate leadership?

Community Culture

  1. THD has been in operation for over 30 years and has developed its own culture and traditions. How do you plan to preserve what residents value while introducing new ideas?
  2. What do you believe makes a senior living community feel like a home rather than simply a residence?
  3. How would you describe your ideal relationship with residents?

Looking Ahead

  1. Where would you like to see THD three years from now?
  2. What would success look like for you as General Manager?
  3. What message would you like to share with residents who may be concerned about recent management changes?
  4. Finally, what can residents do to help you succeed in making THD an even better place to live?

One Question I Would Especially Ask

As a resident who has witnessed considerable turnover, I would ask:

"Many residents have noticed that while Housekeeping, Kitchen, Dining Services, and Maintenance have enjoyed remarkable stability, Activities, Resident Services, and management positions have experienced frequent turnover. What lessons can be learned from this difference, and what steps can be taken to create the same stability across all departments?"

My question is factual, non-accusatory, and difficult to dismiss. It focuses on solutions rather than personalities.

If I am given this interview, it would give residents an opportunity to know the new General Manager while also addressing concerns that many have quietly shared over the past several years.

Meanwhile, My Photo of the Day:
