Palaris, a native principalia educated in Manila, rallied townspeople to demand an end to colonial abuses, unfair tributes, and corrupt friar rule. Inspired by the weakening Spanish grip due to British occupation, his forces took control of towns and ousted Spanish officials, temporarily restoring native governance.
Sadly, after the British left, Spain regained control. Palaris was captured in 1764 and later executed, but his legacy lives on as a symbol of early provincial resistance and hope for Filipino autonomy.
Tower houses are scattered throughout the numerous mountainous regions of the Caucasus region. These are buildings of 4-5 floors, which were built for defensive purposes. The entrance to the tower was on the second floor and could only be accessed by a removable staircase. In the event of an attack, the inhabitants took refuge there and, having removed the stairs, could resist for a long time.
