I am Related to Edgar Jopson According to Geni.com
Edgar Jopson (1948-1982) was a prominent Filipino activist known for his pivotal role in the fight against the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines. Born in Manila to a middle-class family, Jopson excelled academically and attended the Ateneo de Manila University, where he studied engineering. His leadership skills emerged early as he became the president of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) in the late 1960s. Initially advocating for moderate reforms, Jopson's views radicalized following the declaration of Martial Law by President Ferdinand Marcos in 1972. He became a key figure in the underground resistance, joining the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People's Army. Jopson's activism was deeply influenced by the socio-political climate of the time, marked by widespread human rights abuses and suppression of dissent. Tragically, Jopson's life was cut short when he was killed in a military raid in 1982. His legacy endures as a symbol of courage and resistance against tyranny in Philippine history.
